Sociópolis is situated in the district of La Torre, to the south of Valencia, on the banks of the new course of the diverted River Turia, in a sector of almost 350,000 m2 delimited by high speed expressways and a degraded urban periphery. The objective addressed by the Plan is the implantation of almost 3,000 protected housing units, both owner-occupied and rented, respecting as far as possible the existing agricultural landscape and its historic irrigation channels, integrating these into a central park of 150,000 m2 surrounded by amenities.
The sector has been laid out on the basis of an analysis of the landscape of the huerta, the existing farmhouses and the age-old system of irrigation channels, superposing on these a specialized network of circulation routes for cars, bicycles, sports and pedestrians, from which there is direct access to a sequence of towers and blocks distributed around the perimeter. All of the streets are connected with the existing urban fabric of La Torre in order to ensure effective urban continuity.
The necessary urbanity will be achieved not on the basis of a predetermined urban form, but through the encouragement of social interaction in a sequence of specific public spaces that offer sports, agricultural and cultural activities, all linked a major network of amenities.
