JOSÉ MIGUEL IRIBAS, SOCIOLOGIST
Those of us who love the city and believe that the city is where the future of the species lies should be committed to championing those projects that assure these basic components of the urban phenomenon. Sociópolis is diverse, Sociópolis is cross-bred, Sociópolis embraces different uses in a reduced space. In other words, it has all the elements of the urban perfectly configured. Mª JESÚS RODRÍGUEZ, ARCHITECT technical director of the IVVSA In urbanistic terms this is an absolutely innovative experience, one that combines the generation of a high-density residential neighbourhood, mostly reserved for protected housing, with another objective that seemed virtually incompatible, namely the implantation of a large natural park that at the same time integrates urban green zones with the area's traditional agricultural activity. MANUEL COLOMINAS, LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT Sociópolis addresses the challenge of transforming this huerta into an orchard-garden, and defines the fact of reutilizing it as a public element capable of harmonizing the traditional agricultural activities with the recreational use of the public space of the city. SWARTHY MIGUEL, FORMER CHAIRMAN OF THE WATER TRIBUNAL AND VICE- CHAIRMAN OF THE ACEQUIA DE FAVARA IRRIGATION ASSOCIATION The Acequia de Favara irrigation association dates from the year 960, when Abderraman III was Caliph of Cordoba. Personally, I believe that the conservation of the irrigation channels by way of the Sociópolis project is highly effective, because up until now many of these irrigation channels have been lost as a result of the sale of the land in order to build housing. The fact that Sociópolis makes it possible to conserve an area of irrigation channels here in full use seems to me to be very positive and a very good thing. What is more, the urban orchard-gardens will be a success, because they allow people to grow their own fruit and vegetables and spend a very enjoyable time doing so, and keeping alive the traditional system of work and agriculture of Valencia. RAFAEL AZNAR, MAYOR OF LA TORRE DISTRICT The proposal to create urban orchard-gardens took me personally by surprise, because I had thought it would be retired people who would come to ask about them, and it has been exactly the opposite, in that the ones who have shown most interest in the scheme are the young people. The Sociópolis project for the district of La Torre is very important because it means we will have a lot more people here. Though we have good infrastructures now, because we do not have much population we cannot achieve some of the goals that we want to and with Sociópolis will be able to create amenities such as the sports complex that the citizens were asking for. ARTUR SERRA, ANTHROPOLOGIST AND EXPERT IN INTERNET 2 The idea of Sociópolis is to create a digital community among the local residents and this community is going to need a fixed network infrastructure but it is also possible to create a mobile network infrastructure that allows people to share the spaces, the orchard-gardens, the light of Valencia, in order to work on the Internet within the community and also outside. And this really can be a way of socializing the outdoor spaces in the Mediterranean, with a local Internet with multimedia contents created in this neighbourhood called Sociópolis. |
